Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam - sing along now!

Sorry, not that spam. The even less edible one. Unfortunately.

Over the weekend I have recieved over 5000 spam on the church email address - it seems the host server has had an attack of the mailing bots. They are looking into the problem, and it seems to have slowed down to a trickle of a hundred today. If you have emailed me via the church over the last few days, it has probably become lost in the mass-delete exercise. I apologise. If you do not recieve a reply over the next few days, please try again.

The church’s email server is set up so that any phrase before the “@” will reach the church mailbox if the bit after the “@” is correct; so typing “whateveryoufeellikecallingtherector[at](churchname)-(churchname).com” will reach us. This has its good points and its bad points, and I am currently attempting to get the servers to block any unauthorised names.

The particular type of spam that has been recieved has been similar to bounceback mails, all from l;kjlkj;kjkj[at]… etc. If you have recieved random email from my 2 wee churches over the last few days, it is probably spam (unless it says its from me!) and should be deleted. Again I apologise if you have been inconvenienced. I have been assured by our webhosts (who also host the church email server) that the problem should be rectified soon. If not, we’ll be shifting to another server.
